The Federal Chamber of Cassation will announce tomorrow whether it confirms the six-year prison sentence imposed on former Vice President Cristina Kirchner in the "Vialidad" case, which investigates the diversion of 80% of the public works in Santa Cruz in favor of Lázaro Báez's companies between 2003 and 2015. The ruling will be read in a public hearing, and there will be a period of ten business days to appeal to the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation.
In the hearing, which will be broadcast on YouTube, the president of Chamber IV of Cassation will read the verdict. The accused can attend, but it is not mandatory. The court highlighted the public importance of the case by opting to hold a hearing instead of a standard judicial notification.
The Federal Oral Court 2 issued a verdict in December 2022 condemning Kirchner, Báez, and others to six years in prison for fraudulent administration. The prosecution requested 12 years in prison, believing there was fraudulent administration and illicit association. Kirchner's defense claims she is a victim of "lawfare."
The Cassation ruling upheld the conviction of Kirchner for fraudulent administration and her disqualification from holding public office in the Vialidad case, but it will not imply her immediate imprisonment. The ruling must be confirmed by the Supreme Court to be enforceable. The defense and the Public Prosecutor's Office have ten days to appeal this decision.
